The Slack connector syncs messages, files, and canvases into Kepler from the public Slack channels you choose. A Kepler admin connects it once for the whole organization. Kepler only reads. It never posts, changes, or deletes anything in Slack. Slack connects through a Slack app that your organization creates from a manifest that Kepler gives you. The app belongs to your workspace, so you control it in Slack.

Before you start

  • A Kepler organization admin. Only admins can manage connectors.
  • A Slack account that can create and install apps in the workspace you want to sync. If your workspace requires app approval, a Slack workspace admin must do these steps or approve the app.
  • One Slack workspace. Each connection syncs one workspace. On Enterprise Grid, install the app to a single workspace, not to the whole organization.
If Slack is not listed when you add a connector, it is not yet turned on for your organization. Email desk@kepler.ai to turn it on.

Connect Slack

1

Open organization connectors

In Kepler, open the account menu in the sidebar and select Settings. Under Organization, select Org connectors.

Paste the manifest exactly as Kepler shows it. It contains your organization’s own events address, which Slack checks when it creates the app. The manifest is different for each organization.
4

Save the app's credentials

Slack opens the new app’s Basic Information page. Under App Credentials, copy the Client ID, the Client Secret, and the Signing Secret. Select Show to see each secret.

In Kepler, paste the three values into the fields under the manifest, then select Save credentials. The step shows The app’s credentials are saved.

Choose channels

Under Choose what syncs, select Choose content. Nothing syncs until you make a selection. The picker lists the workspace’s public channels and their member counts. Select the channels to sync, then select Save selection.

The Slack row now shows Syncing and the selected channels. Kepler joins each selected channel as the Kepler app, so the channel shows that Kepler joined.

What Kepler syncs

  • Messages in the selected channels, with their thread replies. Edits and deletes in Slack also change Kepler’s copy.
  • Files shared in the selected channels.
  • Canvases in the selected channels.
New messages become searchable within minutes. Kepler groups each channel’s messages by day, and answers cite the channel and the day. Kepler syncs messages from the time you connect. To bring in older messages, email desk@kepler.ai. A Slack workspace admin can export the history from Slack for Kepler to load.
Kepler manages access to a connection and access to its synced content separately. If your Slack content does not appear in the Documents library within 15 minutes, email desk@kepler.ai.

Permissions

The manifest asks Slack for these bot permissions. Kepler asks for no permission to post or to change anything.

Change or remove the connection

  • To change the channels, select Edit selection. When you deselect a channel, Kepler stops syncing it. Kepler stays a member of the channel. To remove it, remove the Kepler app from the channel in Slack.
  • To disconnect, select Delete Slack connection. Then delete the Kepler app from your workspace in Slack, if you no longer need it.

Troubleshooting

Slack checks the events address in the manifest when it creates the app. If Slack shows an error, make sure you pasted the whole manifest from Kepler, unchanged. If the error continues, email desk@kepler.ai.
The picker lists only public channels. Kepler cannot sync private channels or direct messages. An archived channel is not listed either.
Someone removed the Kepler app from the channel in Slack, so Kepler cannot read it. To sync it again, add the Kepler app to the channel in Slack.
